Hi.

Just fitted a secondhand STI 8 TMIC today and can't get my front strut brace back on. Anyone fitted the same item with the same problem? Is there an after market brace that will clear?

Thanks in advance.

Think Markymark on here couldn't re-fit his strutbrace after fitting the STI8 TMIC too!!
Think there maybe an after market one which fits across the front of the IC rather than the back, but I seem to re-call Mark commenting on it made no difference to the handling without the brace??

Sure he will pop on in abit to comment. ;)

yep i did not notice a difference whatsoever. I was talking to Matt Clark the other day after looking at the piece of girder he is fitting on the car he is building at the minute  , and he says they are all a bit of joke in particular the standard STI one. you can bend the damn thing by hand so its not a lot of use really.

I understand why you want to fit it though.

It is possible - get the back of the IC as low as possible, you will have to fettle the corner of the right rear of the IC, fettle the underside of the ally part of the strut brace, put some washers under the plates that bolt to the suspension tops and enlargen the holes that mount the brace so you can raise it a tad.

If you are really clever with the RH bracket, you can drop the RH side of the intercooler a bit lower than the left. When the engine revs hard the crank inertia rotates the whole engine/IC anti-clockwise (as you stand in front of the car) so you need a bit more clearance on that side to stop it banging.

Think its another item going in the cupboard till I have to put her back to standard.

Thanks.

Have a look at the braces from MRT Performance. Wraps around the front of the cooler.

Hi. Got it off ebay for £300 along with Bailey DV and all brackets.

Thanks for the link Rokay.

sti struts are a joke - i think mainly because there are so many who advertise as sti and arent - just cheap sh*t.

I had a cusco which was nice. Now i got a gt spec lower one and will be changing for gt spec all round. So much better. There is a pic somewhere where they cut cusco/gt spec and other strut braces and you can see the design and strength inside.

But as rokay said, you can get a strut which goes round the front of the intercooler - i think they were made for the 93-96 scoobs. Used one of a guys round here who has the sti8 tmic
