people, engine in process of rebuild, i blew up the left side of the engine i.e. melted piston, cracked head. as mechanic is friend of mine we both just focused on getting new head for the left as we thought the right would obviously be ok, we thought wrong!!! cleaned it up and yes u guess it a lovley crack inbetween the vavles not as bad as the left but still cracked, as i only brought a left side head (was a version 5/6) and is already fitted so dont wanna take off, theres a pair on ebay for 300quid but are version 2. whats the difference, will it make a difference that 1 sides a v.5/6 and thats a v.2???????? please let me know asap this is all i need then she will be running!!!! cheers guys

Yes it will make a difference mate, different cc combustion chamber. Also the v5/6 heads are very good for high horse power.

All the heads crack anyway due to age, so depending on how bad it may not be worth worring about.

Its barely a hairline crack. If I rebuilt it wiv it that head surely there r bad sideeffects or not?? Wuld it be worth getin new head? I can't afford it at the momement but if I rebuild it with old head don't wanna rebuild it months down the line. Cheers. Paul

Eventually they could allow water through from the water jacket etc, but we are talking thousands of miles here. The heads I have on my motor had very similar sounding cracks, and I have used them still. The original heads I had were very bad though so threw those.

Without seeing them really it is hard to call. But just saying that you don't have to write them off if they are not too bad.

New ones you could buy yes, iirc I was quoted £850 for each head as a bare cast.

The best thing to do is get them checked by a Specialist. Or we can inspect them for you. Then you'll know for sure, it is hard to call when I haven't seen them.
