My P1 is coming up to 3 years old now and the warranty is due to expire or be extended at the cost of £539!

Is it worth me extending it? Or is the money better spent on decat and remap?

Car has only done 20k mileage!

Danny if you really want to mod the engine in the near future then forget the warranty mate. BUT you must be prepared to shell out for a rebuild should it all go "pete tong" :?

The best person to answer that question is you. Also how long do you intend to keep the car?

Little example for you Danny! (My extended Subaru Warranty was only £430 btw!)

My 5th gear was cruching, turned out it needed £1100 worth of repairs on it only 3 months out of the original warranty.

I extended the warranty a year ago.

I've now had "crunching" in 3rd resolved (syncromesh cone) together with a replacement centre exhaust section (c/w cats) which burnt out.

Don't know how much they would be but I'm glad I'm not paying :D

P.S. I was most surprised at the exhaust which I thought would be normal wear and tear - turns out the extended warranty does exactly what it says on the tin i.e. anything covered over the initial 3 years is covered for the extended period/mileage.

Has anyone extended it beyond the 60k mileage limit since I'm told this is available ? Any idea of cost ?

I suppose it depends on what sort of mods you are planning. If you going to replace the turbo and items like that, then it probably isn't worth it.

If you are just going to run a de -cat then that's not so bad as if anything happened you could always put the old exhaust back on.

Would a decat and remap void the warranty?

Yes it would, but then it depends on your problem.

If you done the de - cat route and your engine blew then you would do everything possible to return the car to standard.

I heard from somewhere cant remember where but Subaru were likely to check ECU's for signs of remapping in the event of engine det.

This is the only thing that is stopping me going down the full de-cat/remap route.

i had this dilemma and i've just bit the bullet and extended the warranty. Put it this way i'm sleeping easy at night and not worrying about the dreaded detonation and knowing that i have subaru assistance makes all the difference. We all want more power but i simply cannot afford any major engine work if something goes wrong.
