price can range dramaticaly, but i guess to be safe. ur looking at circa £2k+ for insurance.

it depends on too many factors like location, where its parked, security on it, mods, your ncb, your penalty points etc...

try the likes of Tesco, Asda, Elephant, Admiral, Adrian Flux, Liverpool Victoria....

hope you get what your lookin for...

tesco say i have to be over 23
Adrian Flux over 23

Elephant >>>3761-10
Admiral>>>>4003.65

have not tried ASDA, are they supposed to be cheap then??

Dunno about insurance but the food is cheap

Worth shopping around as many companies as possible, if it takes a couple of hours but saves you a few hundred quid, it is well worth it. I'm with Direct Line and was surprised when it was over a hundred quid cheaper than any other quote I got (for a UK Turbo).

Good luck with the insurance and the P1 8)

When i was 20 i swapped cars with my mother :-) The bmw 318i was mine and she owned a p1 and put each other on as named drivers. Better than having the parent owning two cars, looks a bit sus. Payed £1250 for p1 in her name. Im 21 now but will be 22 next week (renewal time also) and in my own name £1490 from elephant.

another tip for elephant, add someone old and wise to the policy eg parent as a named driver, knocked 300 hundered quid off mine, was nearly gonna be 1800 then added my mother, almost 300 off. Even though she never gets near it :D

I'm with you yuppy80,but to insure a P1 at 21.Almost impossible unless on parents.I do know of someone at 21 on their dads insurance for a P1
and it still costs £2800.
Good luck.

Most places have changed there policy and won't insure young drivers on high powered cars.
Elephant are probably the best quote you will get but don't try and claim through them because there useless.

Directline own the tesco's part of the insurance so they will cost even more. You will need to phone the majority of company's.

im 21. Got my P1 insured with tescos for £1450 in my name. Clean licence, 4 years no claims.

Most companies wont do online quotes for young drivers for some reason, so you have to call them.

Hi Dave

I was 21 when i first got my p1 paid £1600 but with 4 years no claims. So it is possible, that was with tesco so they must have changed their policy since- even though i'm still with them and only 22. I must admit where I live helps (in the middle of no where) other than tesco's i would have said elephant or admiral but the quotes you have are massive  I found that these were the only three companies that would actually quote.
Do you have any ncd?
Good luck anyway

how did u manage to get insured with tesco @21, they told me 23, they must have just changed it or somethin?

unless i try calling again, and speaking to someone else

anyway i have a clean liscence, and 4year NCB

my post code is UB4, im not sure how bad it is?
also car is being kept on driveway not garaged, will that make much of a difference?

Dave

When I was 21 tesco's insured me but they have changed there policy since. Its ok if your an existing customer but if your new then they won't insure you.

I did hear something about them changing there policy but just thought it was a rumour, only renewed last week. Wouldn't of thought garaging it would make much difference- not £1000's anyway. Can't believe the quotes you got, cos your in a simiar possition to what I was. Don't know what to suggest.

Hi Dave,

Did you try putting your parents on the policy??

Hi mate! I would advise getting insured under one of your parents name. Direct line were my insurance company for my integra and when i changed to my P1 they refused to insure me. Tescos were actually cheaper for my P1 than my integra try and make sense of that. I hate insurance :x

If he can afford to buy a P1 why shouldnt he have one? Just because he's young doesnt mean he has to drive a done up saxo. Plenty of people have crashed their P1s (very nearly me included) it just happens. Im 21 and had an impreza turbo since i was 19 so i know the how to drive these cars reasonably well, dont patronise him tone.

Dave L good luck on finding an insurer but ive got a feeling Tescos were the only viable company and if theyve changed their policy then you may be stuck with a silly premium.

Hi Dave,

Im 20 and am currently insured under my dads name on a VX220 2.2, and am paying 2k.

Waiting until i hit 21 and will probably go under my dads name again until i am abit older. Elephant.co.uk seem to be good and also try confused.com this site searches all insurer's.

Glad to see there was only 1 negative comment and more positive comments towards us younger ones, ive been driving saxo (almost group n spec just needed fire extingusher system) 200bhp, on the track at 17 and 18, i know the P1 is different but the experience is there, now taking my VX220, to france, and the ring before i sell i.
Good look dave!

EDITED TO ADD:

I just tried a quote on elephant.co.uk on my dads name me being 21, i also have another car, my dad has 10 years no claims, etc fully comp it came out to be 1900. :D Just have to wait until im 21 now :(

Tone please bear in mind that not all of us youngsters (can i call myself young @ 27 :? ) are nutters  I had my first scoob @ 21 it was a brand spanking new DBM turbo and I loved it 8) had it for 3 years till i got my 1st P1

I can sort of understand why these cars command high premiums as they ARE stolen (admittedly 4 doors are more popular with the "teevin" scum :x ) and also if you DO wipe out chances are that its gonna hurt

The way i see it is that if you can afford it then go for it mate. There's just as much chance of ANYONE stacking a scoob as a youngster. most accidents are caused by 3rd parties, only today I had some **** nearly take the front of my p1 when they went round the roundabout in the LEFT HAND LANE :x :x :x :x I sounded my "fisher price" horn  @ them but i'd be surprised if they heard it

Group buy on air horns anyone

Anyway back to topic. Have a ring round and let us all know who gives the best quote 8)

You should really be doing what i did.
1100 popular plus escort, 1600 sport escort, RS2000 custom etc and work yourself up slowly to this kind of car.

Sorry to patronise you, but that's very young for a P1. What does your family think about you owning a road-going rally car at 21?
