depeing on your budget, there are plenty of options out there.

personally, i would leave upgrading the rear speakers, in fact, i spent a whole bloody day taking the interior apart and putting it back just to get the bloddy things out!

ideal solution would be to upgrade the fronts and some sort of sub in the back. it doesnt have to be massive. a single 8" sub can make a huge differenece to the sound.
this is course assuming you dont have an OE headunit in still? if you do, just spend a few hundred quid on a replacement headunit, and you will notice a big improvement on the sound anyway.

but back to the speakers. my shortlist of manufacturers would be
Infinty (defualt choice by most subaru owners),
DLS,
Boston Acoustics (i have a set of Pro 6.5s in mine, they rock!)
Rainbow
Diamond Audio
Polk Momo
and a few others i cant think of straight away.

if your not mad on sounds, then something like entry level Infinty or Rainbow components would do very nicely.
I personally would add a bit of sound proofing to the doors (Dynamat) as the ally doors can make the sound of music a bit "muffled".
if your not entirely impressed, then i would an amplifier to them. an amp makes a drastic difference to the sound quality.

Hope this helps.

front speakers are 6.5". and yes, you can put the tweeters in OE space, i have. i even used the bridge that the OE tweeters where bolted onto to do it...

be warned though. with most aftermarket speakers, you weill find that they have a lot more depth to them then the OE speakers your taking out. this means you will have to add spacers, either bought from your local halfords etc, or you can make them yourself out of MDF.

my speakers are stupidly chunky in depth, so i had to use 18mil MDF and a few layers of Dynamat to get them to sit away from the window mechanism/glass.

i keep meaning to strip the door card off to take some pics, but i either get too lazy, or i forget to.

keep bugging me ppl, eventually i will get round to this. :)
