My car was treated to lots of TLC last week, various servicing etc.

Anyway, it's been mentioned that my rear brake disks aren't standard. Which was a wee bit of a shock, considering I assumed that they were. Their spiral grooved with about 20 modest grooves.

Does anyone have a piccy of the standard set-up? I'll grab my digicam tomorrow and put up some of my disks.....and the APs I've got on the front :D

Pics.....
AP fronts - 304mm 4pots. Also showed cosmetic addition to the rim courtesy of my crappy driving one morning grrr....

Which of these disks could be on the wrong way round? Don't they look titchy under 18s :)

BTW: This is the passenger side.

Thanks Jazz,

Mine are definitely different then... ho-hum.... The caliper looks the same so obviously I'm not that esoteric.

Jeremy.

Non standard rear discs and on the wrong way round - someone certainly tried to personalise your p1! Maybe you could swap the rear discs over
As long as they work...

Your front AP's look cool, but even they look small with those 18's you've got 8)
I was hoping to get some 18's one day soon but that day seems to keep getting further away :(

If I remember correctly the grooves dont have a particular way of rotation they can be fitted anyway, they are only there to clean the pads i have read. Could be wrong tho :? (its been known before! )

The grooves are designed to generate a turbine effect which dissipates heat build up, allowing the discs to run cooler and reducing the possibility of warping, vibration or cracking

.....so there

Kev's right about the rear discs and I believe they also stop glazing (hardening)of the pads surface, from the heat.
Front brakes abit small under 18's, but still look nice.

I just found some info. on AP-Racing's site.

Types of discs.
http://www.apracing.com/car/brakedisc/face.htm

How to mount APs.
http://www.apracing.com/car/brakedisc/identification.htm

So although my brakes look WRONG as the grooves face different directions, there's a good chance that they're both correctly mounted.

Both sides are indeed mounted correctly.

The AP-disk on the front side has internal curved blades, that point in the opposite direction (backwards) compeared to the grooves. (Forward) The blades should dump the hot air away, from the inside to the outside of the disk.

The disk on the rear whoever is a "Tarox"-one, which doesn't have internal curved blades. This one is designed to let dust and heat from your disk-surface go free towards the outside.

Update....

I had a nose around today whilst I got new tyres. The rear disks are ventilated and grooved. Please tell me that the standard rear disks are ventilated too!

Unfortunately, this means that I'll need to find out if the vents in the rear disks are directional before I'll know if they're fitted correctly.

Yes, OEM reardiscs are ventilated.

No, they do not have directional vents.

The Tar-Ox ones you have now do not have directional vents either, and are mounted correctly.

Don't worry. 8)
